Device degradation is typically identified by poor battery life or inaccurate readings. Here are our top 5 tips for an accurate battery calibration!
At Atom I.T. Repairs, we encounter several devices of all types and in varied conditions every day. The unique, technical challenges posed by each repair request are what keep our team efficient and updated with the latest information and resources. Across the wide spectrum of battery powered devices, we note a common consequence of usage which is virtually unavoidable. Through adequate battery calibration we maintain accurate battery readings and thus may increase a device’s lifespan. This will also indicate if a device is functioning adequately or is in some way flawed.
Without the right calibration, any battery percentage reading is not entirely accurate. As a result of this, sudden shutdown and poor performance may be encountered. However, this can also be controlled or improved. While each device possesses its own demands and approaches, the following tips are tailored towards laptops in particular, and outline a step by step method in order to effectively recalibrate a battery’s readings. This is done by measuring the difference between full charge and no charge, in a process that is called coulomb counting. The process is as follows:
1. Charge Straight to 100%
2. Top Up With an Additional 2-3 Hours of Charging
3. Unplug and Drain Charge Until the Device Shuts Down Automatically or Prompts Shut Down
4. Leave Your Device off for a Minimum of 5 Hours
5. Charge Straight to 100%
Throughout the process we strongly recommend saving any work in order to avoid loss of data through possible sudden shutdown. It is recommended to perform this process periodically to ensure that the battery remains properly calibrated throughout its lifespan. With regards to phones, tablets, and smartwatches, the battery calibration process is also quite similar - however is defined by four basic steps. These are:
1. Charge Straight to 100%
2. Top Up With At Least 2 More Hours
3. Make Use of The Device Until Shut Down
4. Charge Uninterrupted to 100%
The battery recalibration tips and steps outlined for laptops, phones, tablets, and smartwatches will exclusively serve to depict adequate charge readings. Many a time, this hindrance emerges as a result of time and usage and can lead to a range of possible consequences. With adequate attention and care, you can also avoid harm to your battery powered devices.
Although these tips are suggested, a particular device’s condition at any point in time may affect the outcome of this exercise. For that reason, we are not responsible for any damages which may occur.
